Bluetooth based Home Automation using Arduino

Bluetooth module HC-05 is interfaced with Arduino board and home appliances are connected with Arduino board via relay. Smartphone application is used for serial communication between smartphone and Bluetooth module which is further connected with Arduino board. Several remote controlled home automation systems have been studied. R.Piyare and M.Tazil research work provided full functionality to remotely control home appliances via wireless communication between the Arduino BT and cell phone using Bluetooth technology. Arduino BT board was connected with home appliance and it was controlled by a Symbian OS cell phone application.

The connection of the HC-05 Bluetooth module with Arduino UNO is very easy as we will be using the serial communication interface that consists of two pins TX and RX. The relays are connected to the pins 9, 8, 7 and 6 of Arduino board via BC547 transistor circuits connected in a common emitter configuration. The phase wire from the AC supply is provided at the COM terminal of the relays. The LEDs are connected parallel to the relay circuit with pull-up resistors in series. The RS and E pins of the LCD are connected to pins 13 and 12 of the Arduino UNO respectively. HC-05 Bluetooth will be used to communicate with Arduino using an Android Application known as the S2 Terminal.There are also other apps but this is free and easy to use. To establish a Bluetooth connection, we will use the HC-05 Bluetooth module.
